Welcome

Call to Worship

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 124:8 (NKJV)

Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His,

And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.

Psalm 30:4 (NKJV)

Hymn # 12 Exalt the Lord, His Praise Proclaim

1 Exalt the Lord, his praise proclaim;

all ye his servants, praise his name,

who in the Lord's house ever stand

and humbly serve at his command.

The Lord is good, his praise proclaim;

since it is pleasant, praise his name;

his people for his own he takes

and his own peculiar treasure makes.

2 I know the Lord is high in state,

above all gods our Lord is great;

the Lord performs what he decrees,

in heav'n and earth, in depths and seas.

He makes the vapors to ascend

in clouds from earth's remotest end;

the lightnings flash at his command;

he holds the tempest in his hand.

3 Exalt the Lord, his praise proclaim;

all ye his servants, praise his name,

who in the Lord's house ever stand

and humbly serve at his command.

Forever praise and bless his name,

and in the church his praise proclaim;

in Zion is his dwelling place;

praise ye the Lord, show forth his grace.

Call To Confession

Seek the Lord while He may be found,

Call upon Him while He is near.

Let the wicked forsake his way,

And the unrighteous man his thoughts;

Let him return to .the Lord,

And He will have mercy on him;

And to our God,

For He will abundantly pardon.

Isaiah 55:6-7 (NKJV)

Confession of Sins

Almighty Father, holy and merciful God, we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed. We have thought evil thoughts. We have spoken wrong words. We have done what your law forbids. For the sake of your Son forgive us. By your Spirit enable us to turn from sin to joyful obedience. Cause your face to shine on us and be gracious to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Word of Assurance

Our heavenly Father does forgive us according to his promise that

For as the heavens are high above the earth,

So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;

As far as the east is from the west,

So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

As a father pities his children,

So the Lord pities those who fear Him.

Psalm 103:11-13 (NKJV)

Let us, therefore, give glory to our God!

Hymn #735 Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. World without end. Amen, amen.

Scripture Lesson: 2 Corinthians 4:1-18 (NKJV)

1 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. 2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death is working in us, but life in you.

13 And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, 14 knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Sermon

Hymn # 705 I Know Whom I Have Believed

1 I know not why God's wondrous grace

to me he has made known,

nor why, unworthy, Christ in love

redeemed me for his own.

Refrain:

But "I know whom I have believed,

and am persuaded that he is able

to keep that which I've committed

unto him against that day."

2 I know not how this saving faith

to me he did impart,

nor how believing in his Word

wrought peace within my heart. [Refrain]

3 I know not how the Spirit moves,

convincing men of sin,

revealing Jesus through the Word,

creating faith in him. [Refrain]

4 I know not what of good or ill

may be reserved for me,

of weary ways or golden days,

before his face I see. [Refrain]

5 I know not when my Lord may come,

at night or noonday fair,

nor if I'll walk the vale with him,

or "meet him in the air." [Refrain]

Prayer of the Church

Almighty and Gracious Father, look with mercy upon us. Preserve and protect us in the difficulties of this life. Keep us in true faith and repentance that we many enter into your eternal kingdom. Grant to your church here and throughout the world faithful shepherds that we may know your truth and believe your promises. Give strength and boldness to our missionaries that the gospel of your Son may be proclaimed in every nation. Deliver your people from unjust governments throughout the world who impeded the preaching of the gospel, who restrict the assembling of your people, and who seek to harm your flock.

Great Judge of the living and the dead, restrain those who despise your law and promote moral perversity and violence in our society. Enlighten the eyes of our American people to see the blessing of doing the good and folly of doing what your law forbids. Send forth your Spirit to turn the hearts of our people from unbelief and wickedness to faith in your Son. Grant that your law of love may triumph over the hatred of men.

O kind and compassionate Father, deliver us from illness and disease that we may sing your praise. Renew our faith to trust you that you work all things for our good and salvation. Make our labors to prosper and make our hearts generous toward our brothers and sisters in need. Give us boldness to bear witness to you as the only true God, and to your Son as the only Savior of mankind.

Hear us as we pray as Jesus taught us to pray:

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Hymn # 94 How Firm A Foundation

1 How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord,

is laid for your faith in his excellent Word!

What more can he say than to you he has said,

to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

2 “Fear not, I am with you, O be not dismayed;

for I am your God, and will still give you aid;

I'll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,

upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.”

3 “When through the deep waters I call you to go,

the rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;

for I will be with you, your troubles to bless,

and sanctify to you your deepest distress.”

4 “When through fiery trials your pathway shall lie,

my grace, all-sufficient, shall be your supply;

the flame shall not hurt you; I only design

your dross to consume and your gold to refine.”

5 “E'en down to old age all my people shall prove

my sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love;

and when hoary hairs shall their temples adorn,

like lambs they shall still in my bosom be borne.”

6 “The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,

I will not, I will not desert to his foes;

that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,

I'll never, no never, no never forsake.”

Benediction
