Call to Worship: Psalm 130:7-8

O Israel, hope in the Lord;

For with the Lord there is mercy,

And with Him is abundant redemption.

And He shall redeem Israel

From all his iniquities.

Prayer: Almighty and merciful Father, we praise you for the redemption you have provided through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. We acknowledge that in ourselves we have only sin and death, but in your Son we are ransomed, healed, restored and forgiven. And so we sing your praises and give thanks for your continual kindness. Wash us clean from our sin and renew in us true faith and repentance that we may worship you aright this day. For we ask this in the name of your Son, our Savior and King, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Verse of Assurance: Psalm 130:3-5

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,

O Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with You,

That You may be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

And in His word I do hope.

Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven (Trinity Hymnal 76)

1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,

to his feet your tribute bring;

ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,

who, like me, his praise should sing?

Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him,

praise the everlasting King.

2 Praise him for his grace and favor

to our fathers in distress;

praise him, still the same forever,

slow to chide and swift to bless;

Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him,

glorious in his faithfulness.

3 Father-like, he tends and spares us;

well our feeble frame he knows;

in his hands he gently bears us,

rescues us from all our foes;

Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him,

widely as his mercy goes.

4 Frail as summer's flow'r we flourish,

blows the wind and it is gone;

but while mortals rise and perish,

God endures unchanging on.

Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him,

praise the High Eternal One.

5 Angels, help us to adore him;

you behold him face to face;

sun and moon, bow down before him,

dwellers all in time and space,

praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him,

praise with us the God of grace

Scripture Lesson: James 4:13-17 (NKJV):

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”;

14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”

16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

Prayer and Lord’s Prayer:

Almighty and Gracious Heavenly Father, our help is found in you. In your mercy strengthen our faith that in this time of difficulty we may trust in your promises and experience your peace in our hearts. Watch over and protect our congregation scattered about in our various families. Hear our unified voice of praise and petition even though we are distant from each other.

In this time of crisis, give wisdom to our governing officials that they make effective decisions for the good of our American people. Send your Spirit upon our nation to turn us toward you, the only true God, through your Son, Jesus our Lord and Savior. Let the gospel of your Son be heard throughout our land.

Keep and preserve your people everywhere in the world. Protect our brothers and sisters in Christ from antagonistic governments, and from the effects of this pandemic. You are the sovereign ruler of the nations, and your judgments are just. So be merciful to us, forgive us our sins, and bring this plague to an end. Grant us faith to trust and know that all things work for the good of those who love you and are called according to your purpose.

Hear us as we pray as Jesus taught us to pray:

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

He Leadeth me: O Blessed Thought! (Trinity Hymnal 600)

1 He leadeth me: O blessed thought!

O words with heav'nly comfort fraught!

Whate'er I do, where'er I be,

still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, he leadeth me;

by his own hand he leadeth me:

his faithful foll'wer I would be,

for by his hand he leadeth me.

2 Sometimes 'mid scenes of deepest gloom,

sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom,

by waters calm, o'er troubled sea,

still 'tis his hand that leadeth me. [Refrain]

3 Lord, I would clasp thy hand in mine,

nor ever murmur nor repine;

content, whatever lot I see,

since 'tis my God that leadeth me. [Refrain]

4 And when my task on earth is done,

when, by thy grace, the vict'ry's won,

e'en death's cold wave I will not flee,

since God through Jordan leadeth me. [Refrain]

To Our Church Family and Friends

In light of the Covid-19 crisis, a Session meeting was called. After much prayer and consideration, the Session decided to comply wholeheartedly with the CDC recommendations,in order to do our part in combating the spread of the virus.  We are convinced that this is what we must do in order to love our neighbors as ourselves.  It was decided to cancel all of our Bible Studies, Youth Groups, Choir and Sunday School.

We will not be conducting worship services in the church building.  At the present time, we are developing a worship service that can be conducted at home.  There will be online resources for this service and an order of worship available to you.  These materials should be ready for you by Saturday and posted on our website,  and on the church Facebook page.

We recognize this is not an ideal circumstance for worship for the church as a whole.  In the current circumstance, it is what we can do.  We will make adjustments to this service as we learn.

Please be in prayer for one another and patient with us as we find our way through this crisis.  Please keep the leaders of the church in your prayers and the leaders of our nation, as well.

As always, please reach out to an Elder with any questions.

Thank you.

In Christ,

Rev.  Dave Kenyon
