Call to Worship: Psalm 148:11–13

Kings of the earth and all peoples;

Princes and all judges of the earth;

Both young men and maidens;

Old men and children.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,

For His name alone is exalted.

Prayer: Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, we praise you for all of your kindness to us whom you have created and whom you daily sustain. May all our creation praise you. And we praise you for your great mercy that when we had sinned against you in our first Father, Adam, you made with a covenant of grace to redeem us by our Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. We thank you for his incarnation, his sinless life, his saving death and his glorious resurrection. For his sake forgive us our sins and renew us in joyful obedience to your commands. In his name we pray. Amen.

Verse of Assurance: Matthew 20:28

The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.

All Creatures of Our God and King (Trinity Hymnal 115)

1 All creatures of our God and King,

lift up your voice and with us sing

alleluia, alleluia!

Thou burning sun with golden beam,

thou silver moon with softer gleam,

O praise him, O praise him,

alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

2 Thou rushing wind that art so strong,

ye clouds that sail in heav'n along,

O praise him, alleluia!

Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,

ye lights of evening, find a voice,

O praise him, O praise him,

alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

3 Thou flowing water, pure and clear,

make music for thy Lord to hear,

alleluia, alleluia!

Thou fire so masterful and bright,

that givest man both warmth and light,

O praise him, O praise him,

alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

4 And all ye men of tender heart,

forgiving others, take your part,

O sing ye, alleluia!

Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,

praise God and on him cast your care,

O praise him, O praise him,

alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

5 Let all things their Creator bless,

and worship him in humbleness,

O praise him, alleluia!

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,

and praise the Spirit, three in one,

O praise him, O praise him,

alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Scripture Lesson: Job 1 (NKJV)

1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. 2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East.

4 And his sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did regularly.

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”

So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

9 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”

12 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.”

So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house; 14 and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, 15 when the Sabeans raided them and took them away—indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,

And naked shall I return there.

The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;

Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

Prayer and Lord’s Prayer:

Our Merciful Heavenly Father, to your name be all glory, praise and honor for your love and kindness to us in redeeming us by your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. By your Spirit subdue us to your will and make us to be your faithful servants. Establish the Kingdom of your Son throughout the world that the peoples may confess him to be Lord and may learn his commands.

Grant to us faith to trust you in all the troubles of this life. Through this pandemic, turns the hearts of the people to you, that they may confess you to be the one true God, and your Son to be the only Savior of mankind.

Protect your saints from evil governments that oppress them and take away their liberties. Guide the affairs of this nation, and every nation, that your name may be honored and your commandments may be obeyed. Break down the impediments which evil rulers erect to restrain the gospel of your Son and fill the earth with the sound of good news of his death and resurrection.

In our weakness, heal and preserve us both from the illnesses that afflict our bodies and the sins that pollute our souls. Provide our needs for our daily life and teach us to not fret about the uncertainties before us but to trust in your providential care.

Hear us as we pray as Jesus taught us to pray:

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Lead On, O King Eternal (Trinity Hymnal 580)

1 Lead on, O King eternal,

the day of march has come;

henceforth in fields of conquest

thy tents shall be our home:

through days of preparation

thy grace has made us strong,

and now, O King eternal,

we lift our battle song.

2 Lead on, O King eternal,

till sin's fierce war shall cease,

and holiness shall whisper

the sweet amen of peace;

for not with swords loud clashing,

nor roll of stirring drums,

but deeds of love and mercy,

the heav'nly kingdom comes.

3 Lead on, O King eternal,

we follow, not with fears;

for gladness breaks like morning

where'er thy face appears;

thy cross is lifted o'er us;

we journey in its light:

the crown awaits the conquest;

lead on, O God of might.

To Our Church Family and Friends

In light of the Covid-19 crisis, a Session meeting was called. After much prayer and consideration, the Session decided to comply wholeheartedly with the CDC recommendations,in order to do our part in combating the spread of the virus.  We are convinced that this is what we must do in order to love our neighbors as ourselves.  It was decided to cancel all of our Bible Studies, Youth Groups, Choir and Sunday School.

We will not be conducting worship services in the church building.  At the present time, we are developing a worship service that can be conducted at home.  There will be online resources for this service and an order of worship available to you.  These materials should be ready for you by Saturday and posted on our website,  and on the church Facebook page.

We recognize this is not an ideal circumstance for worship for the church as a whole.  In the current circumstance, it is what we can do.  We will make adjustments to this service as we learn.

Please be in prayer for one another and patient with us as we find our way through this crisis.  Please keep the leaders of the church in your prayers and the leaders of our nation, as well.

As always, please reach out to an Elder with any questions.

Thank you.

In Christ,

Rev.  Dave Kenyon
