Welcome Call to Worship Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Psalm 100:1–4 (NKJV) Hymn # 65 Before Jehovah's Awesome Throne 1 Before Jehovah's awesome throne, all nations, bow with sacred joy; know that the Lord is God alone, he can create, and he destroy - he can create, and he destroy. 2 His sovereign pow'r without our aid, made us of dust and formed us men; and when like wand'ring sheep we strayed, he brought us to his fold again - he brought us to his fold again. 3 We are his people, we his care, our souls and all our mortal frame: what lasting honors shall we rear, almighty Maker, to your name? - almighty Maker, to your name? 4 We'll crowd your gates with thankful songs, high as the heav'ns our voices raise; and earth, with her ten thousand tongues, shall fill your courts with sounding praise - shall fill your courts with sounding praise. 5 Wide as the world is your command, vast as eternity your love; firm as a rock your truth must stand, when rolling years shall cease to move - when rolling years shall cease to move. Call To Confession Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Romans 12:9–14 (NKJV): Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You that You may be feared. Psalm 130:1–4 (NKJV) Confession of Sins Let us, therefore, confess our sin, saying together: Merciful Heavenly Father, pardon us our many sins; the sins we know and the sins hidden from our conscience. Cleanse us from wrong motives and forgive us for feeble obedience. By your Spirit renew our hearts to love you, our minds to know you, and our wills to obey you. For we ask this mercy in the name of your Son who shed his blood for us. Amen. Word of Assurance God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. Romans 5:8–9 (NKJV) Song of Renewal My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand. Trinity Hymnal # 521, stanza 1 Scripture Lessons: 2 Peter 2:1–10 (NKJV) 1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. 4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; 6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; 7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)— 9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. Sermon Hymn # 50 O Lord, Be Thou My Helper True
1 O Lord, be thou my helper true, for just and godly men are few; the faithful who can find? From truth and wisdom men depart, with flatt’ring lips and double heart they speak their evil mind.
2 The lips that speak, the truth to hide, the tongues of arrogance and pride, that boastful words employ, false-speaking tongues that boast their might, that own no law, that know no right, Jehovah will destroy.
3 Because the poor are sore oppressed, because the needy are distressed, and bitter are their cries, the Lord will be their helper strong; to save them from contempt and wrong Jehovah will arise.
4 Jehovah's promises are sure, his words are true, his words are pure as silver from the flame. Though base men walk on ev'ry side, his saints are safe, whate'er betide, protected by his name. Prayer of the Church and the Lord’s Prayer “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Hymn # 347 The Church's One Foundation
1 The church's one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord; she is his new creation by water and the Word: from heav'n he came and sought her to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.
2 Elect from ev'ry nation, yet one o'er all the earth, her charter of salvation one Lord, one faith, one birth; one holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses, with ev'ry grace endued.
3 Though with a scornful wonder men see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed, yet saints their watch are keeping, their cry goes up, "How long?" And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song. 4 The church shall never perish! Her dear Lord to defend, to guide, sustain, and cherish, is with her to the end; though there be those that hate her, and false sons in her pale, against or foe or traitor she ever shall prevail.
5 'Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, she waits the consummation of peace forevermore; till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest, and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest
6 Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won: O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee
