Welcome Call to Worship
Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities. Psalm 103:1–3 (NKJV) Hymn # 76 Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven
1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven, to his feet your tribute bring; ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who, like me, his praise should sing? Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise the everlasting King. 2 Praise him for his grace and favor to our fathers in distress; praise him, still the same forever, slow to chide and swift to bless; praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, glorious in his faithfulness. 3 Father-like, he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows; in his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes; praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, widely as his mercy goes. 4 Frail as summer's flow'r we flourish, blows the wind and it is gone; but while mortals rise and perish, God endures unchanging on. Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise the High Eternal One. 5 Angels, help us to adore him; you behold him face to face; sun and moon, bow down before him, dwellers all in time and space, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise with us the God of grace Call To Confession Our Lord Jesus says, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ And also, ‘Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.’ "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us... If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” Let us, therefore, confess ours sins to the Lord, saying together: 1 John 1:8 (NKJV)
Confession of Sins Almighty and Gracious Father, we confess to you that we have sinned by not loving you with our whole heart and by not loving our neighbor as ourselves. Our faith is weak and we easily give in to doubt. Forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness in thought, word and deed. For we ask this in the name of your Son, who is our sure Redeemer and our Savior. Amen. Word of Assurance Brothers and Sisters in Jesus, our Gracious Heavenly Father has forgiven us our sins according to His word that "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins." Colossians 1:13–14
Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heav'ly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Scripture Lesson: Exodus 20:4–6 (NKJV) 4 You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. Sermon Hymn # 6 O Come, My Soul, Bless Thou the Lord
1 O come, my soul, bless thou the Lord thy Maker, and all within me bless his holy name; bless thou the Lord, forget not all his mercies, his pard'ning grace and saving love proclaim.
Refrain: Bless him forever, wondrous in might, bless him, his servants that in his will delight. 2 Good is the Lord and full of kind compassion, most slow to anger, plenteous in love; rich is his grace to all that humbly seek him, boundless and endless as the heav'ns above. [Refrain] 3 His love is like a father's to his children, tender and kind to all who fear his name; for well he knows our weakness and our frailty, he knows that we are dust, he knows our frame. [Refrain]
4 We fade and die like flow'rs that grow in beauty, like tender grass that soon will disappear; but evermore the love of God is changeless, still shown to those who look to him in fear. [Refrain]
5 High in the heav'ns his throne is fixed forever, his kingdom rules o'er all from pole to pole; bless ye the Lord through all his wide dominion, bless his most holy name, O thou my soul. [Refrain] Prayer of the Church with the Lord’s Prayer Let us pray together as Jesus taught us: “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Hymn # 181 We Come, O Christ to You
1 We come, O Christ to You, true Son of God and man, by whom all things consist, in Whom all life began: in you alone we live and move, and have our being in your love. 2 You are the way to God, your blood our ransom paid; in you we face our Judge and Maker unafraid. Before the throne absolved we stand, your love has met your law's demand. 3 You are the living Truth! All wisdom dwells in you, the Source of every skill, The one eternal TRUE! O great I AM! In you we rest, sure answer to our every quest. 4 You only are true Life, to know you is to live the more abundant life that earth can never give: O risen Lord! We live in you: in us each day your life renew! 5 We worship you, Lord Christ, our Savior and our King, to you our youth and strength adoringly we bring: so fill our hearts, that all may view your life in us, and turn to you.
