Call to Worship
Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones,
Give unto the Lord glory and strength.
Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
Psalm 29:1–2 (NKJV)
Hymn # 45 Now unto Jehovah, Ye Sons of the Mighty
1 Now unto Jehovah, ye sons of the mighty, all glory and strength and dominion accord; ascribe to him glory, and render him honor, in beauty of holiness worship the Lord, in beauty of holiness worship the Lord.
2 The voice of Jehovah comes down on the waters; in thunder the God of the glory draws nigh. Lo, over the waves of the wide-flowing waters Jehovah as King is enthroned on high! Jehovah as King is enthroned on high!
3 The voice of Jehovah is mighty, is mighty; The voice of Jehovah in majesty speaks: The voice of Jehovah the cedars is breaking; Jehovah the cedars of Lebanon breaks, Jehovah the cedars of Lebanon breaks.
4 Each one, in His temple, His glory proclaimeth. He sat on the flood; he is King on his throne. Jehovah all strength to his people imparteth; Jehovah with peace ever blesseth his own, Jehovah with peace ever blesseth his own.
Call To Confession
Our Lord Jesus says, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ And also, ‘Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.’
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us... If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” Let us, therefore, confess ours sins to the Lord, saying together:
1 John 1:8 (NKJV)
Confession of Sins
Almighty and Gracious Father, we confess to you that we have sinned by not loving you with our whole heart and by not loving our neighbor as ourselves. Our faith is weak and we easily give in to doubt. Forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness in thought, word and deed. For we ask this in the name of your Son, who is our sure Redeemer and our Savior. Amen.
Word of Assurance
Brothers and Sisters in Jesus, our Gracious Heavenly Father has forgiven us our sins according to His word that "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins."
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heav'ly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Scripture Lesson: Peter 2:1–11 NKJV, (modified JDK):
1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus the Christ,
To those who have obtained an equally precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus the Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God even Jesus our Lord,
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of the one who called us by his glory and moral excellence,
4 by which he have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature having escaped the corruption that is in the world through immoral passion.
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith moral excellence, to moral excellence knowledge,
6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control endurance, to endurance godliness,
7 to godliness brotherly affection, and to brotherly affection love.
8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus the Christ.
9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ.
Hymn Speak O Lord [insert]
1 Speak, O Lord, as we come to You To receive the food of Your Holy Word Take Your truth, plant it deep in us Shape and fashion us in Your likeness
That the light of Christ might be seen today In our acts of love and our deeds of faith Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us All Your purposes for Your glory
2 Teach us Lord, full obedience Holy reverence, true humility Test our thoughts and our attitudes In the radiance of Your purity
Cause our faith to rise, cause our eyes to see Your majestic love and authority Words of pow'r that can never fail Let their truth prevail over unbelief
3 Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us Truths unchanged from the dawn of time That will echo down through eternity
And by grace we'll stand on Your promises And by faith we'll walk as You walk with us Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built And the earth is filled with Your glory
Prayer of the Church with the Lord’s Prayer
Let us pray together as Jesus taught us:
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
Hymn # 650 I Will Sing Of My Redeemer
1 I will sing of my Redeemer, and his wondrous love to me; on the cruel cross he suffered, from the curse to set me free.
Refrain: Sing, O sing of my Redeemer! With his blood he purchased me; on the cross he sealed my pardon, paid the debt and made me free.
2 I will tell the wondrous story, how my lost estate to save, in his boundless love and mercy, he the ransom freely gave. (Refrain)
3 I will praise my dear Redeemer, his triumphant pow'r I'll tell, how the victory he giveth over sin and death and hell. (Refrain)
4 I will sing of my Redeemer and his heav'nly love to me; he from death to life has brought me, Son of God, with him to be. (Refrain)
