Call To Confession
Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord;
Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.
If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.
Psalm 130:1–4 (NKJV)
Confession of Sins
Almighty Father, Holy One in whom there is no darkness, and with whom evil cannot dwell, have mercy on us, your sinful and faltering people. Forgive us our many sins, the sins we know and the sins hidden from our own conscience. Grant us such a living faith that this day we may receive and rest upon your Son as our perfect and all-sufficient Savior. By your Spirit renew in us a true repentance that we turn away from sin and delight to do your commandments. May we with gratitude for your grace worship you acceptably with reverence and awe this day, and may your peace fill our hearts. For we ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son, our great Savior and King. Amen.
Word of Assurance
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:5–7 (NKJV)
Call to Worship
The Lord reigns;
Let the earth rejoice;
Let the multitude of isles be glad!
Clouds and darkness surround Him;
Righteousness and judgment are the foundation of His throne.
Psalm 97:1–2 (NKJV mod,)
Hymn #75 O Father, You are Sovereign
1 O Father, you are sovereign in all the worlds you made; your mighty word was spoken, and light and life obeyed. Your voice commands the seasons and bounds the ocean’s shore, sets stars within their courses and stills the tempest's roar.
2 O Father, you are sovereign in all affairs of man; no pow'rs of death or darkness can thwart your perfect plan. All chance and change transcending, supreme in time and space, you hold your trusting children secure in your embrace.
3 O Father, you are sovereign, the Lord of human pain, transmuting earthly sorrows to gold of heav'nly gain. All evil overruling, as none but Conqu'ror could, your love pursues its purpose-- our souls’ eternal good.
4 O Father, you are sovereign! We see you dimly now, but soon before your triumph earth’s ev'ry knee shall bow. With this glad hope before us, our faith springs up anew: our sovereign Lord and Savior, we trust and worship you!
Scripture Lessons: Isaiah 2:1–5 & Matthew 28:18-20
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the Lord’s house
Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And all nations shall flow to it.
3 Many people shall come and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.
5 O house of Jacob, come and let us walk In the light of the Lord.
Isaiah 2:1–5 (NKJV)
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 28:18–20 (NKJV)
Hymn #309 Rejoice! The Lord is King.
1 Rejoice, the Lord is King: your Lord and King adore! Rejoice, give thanks, and sing, and triumph evermore. Refrain: Lift up your heart, lift up your voice! Rejoice, again I say, rejoice! 2 Jesus the Savior reigns, the God of truth and love; when he had purged our stains, he took his seat above. [Refrain] 3 His kingdom cannot fail, he rules o'er earth and heav'n; the keys of death and hell are to our Jesus giv'n. [Refrain] 4 He sits at God's right hand till all his foes submit, and bow to his command, and fall beneath his feet. [Refrain] 5 Rejoice in glorious hope! Our Lord, the Judge, shall come, and take his servants up to their eternal home. [Refrain]
Prayer of the Church
Gracious Heavenly Father, Creator, Sustainer and Judge of mankind, we cry out to you in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Have mercy upon us and be gracious to us. Preserve us in faith and repentance through all the troubles of this life, and bring us safely into everlasting life in your heavenly kingdom.
By your Spirit, make us bold to confess your Son as the only Savior of mankind, and as the King over all kings, presidents and governors. Give us confidence to teach all that he has commanded that we, our nation, and our legislators may be governed by his law.
We give thanks to you that you have preserved us through the time of pandemic and you have been pleased to ease our burden. So preserve us in this time of social turmoil, and through this trouble afflicting our nation, advance your kingdom and cause your name to be honored both with lips that praise you and lives that obey your law.
Revive your Church in our land. Deliver her from false teachers and worldly clergy who do not proclaim the only gospel of your Son who alone is Lord and Savior. Fill our land with the sound of the good news of Jesus’ saving death, his conquering resurrection, and his glorious enthronement at your right hand. Let the false religion of perversionist politics be overcome by the message of your redeeming love through your Son.
Keep and protect your people who are oppressed and threatened by wicked governments and by false religions. Grant to them freedom to worship and serve you without interference. Cause such evil regimes to collapse and raise up just governments that acknowledge your Son as Lord and your law as supreme.
Give to us the needs of our daily life, and enable us to trust in you when things seem uncertain.
Hear us as we pray as Jesus taught us to pray:
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
Hymn #198 Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates
1 Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates! Behold, the King of glory waits; the King of kings is drawing near, the Savior of the world is here. 2 A helper just he comes to thee, his chariot is humility, his kingly crown is holiness, his scepter, pity in distress. 3 O blest the land, the city blest, where Christ the Ruler is confessed! O happy hearts and happy homes to whom this King in triumph comes! 4 Fling wide the portals of your heart; make it a temple, set apart from earthly use for heav'n's employ, adorned with prayer and love and joy. 5 Redeemer, come! I open wide my heart to thee; here, Lord, abide! Let me thy inner presence feel; thy grace and love in me reveal. 6 So come, my Sovereign, enter in! Let new and nobler life begin! Thy Holy Spirit, guide us on, until the glorious crown be won.
