Welcome

Call to Worship

Sing to the Lord a new song;

sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Sing to the Lord, praise his name;

proclaim his salvation day after day.

Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

Psalm 96:1–3 (NIV)

Hymn # 55 To God be the Glory

1 To God be the glory, great things he has done! So loved he the world that he gave us his Son, who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that we may go in. Refrain: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thro' Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he has done! 2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood! To ev'ry believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus forgiveness receives. (Refrain) 3 Great things he has taught us, great things he has done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; but purer and higher and greater will be our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. (Refrain)

Call To Confession

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For,

“Whoever would love life and see good days

must keep their tongue from evil

and their lips from deceitful speech.

They must turn from evil and do good;

they must seek peace and pursue it.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous

and his ears are attentive to their prayer,

but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

1 Peter 3:8–12 citing Psalm 34:12-16 (NIV):

Confession of Sins

Let us pray to the Lord confessing our sin, saying together:

Do not withhold your mercy from me, Lord;

may your love and faithfulness always protect me.

For troubles without number surround me;

my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.

They are more than the hairs of my head,

and my heart fails within me.

Be pleased to save me, Lord;

come quickly, Lord, to help me.

Psalm 40:11–13 (NIV)

Word of Assurance

As we are weary and burdened by our sins and our troubles, our Lord Jesus says to us:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)

Song of Renewal

Jesus! I do now receive him, more than all in him I find; he hath granted me forgiveness, I am his, and he is mine.

Hallelujah! what a Savior! Hallelujah! what a Friend! Saving, helping, keeping, loving, he is with me to the end.

Trinity Hymnal # 498, stanza 5

Scripture Lessons:

Psalm 31:21–24 (ESV):

21 Blessed be the Lord, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city.

22 I had said in my alarm, “I am cut off from your sight.”

But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.

23 Love the Lord, all you his saints! The Lord preserves the faithful

but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.

24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!

1 Corinthians 16:13–14 (ESV):

13 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.

14 Let all that you do be done in love.

John 15:18–20 (ESV):

18 If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.

19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

Sermon

Hymn # 571 Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus

1 Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross; lift high his royal banner, it must not suffer loss: from vict'ry unto vict'ry his army he shall lead, till ev'ry foe is vanquished and Christ is Lord indeed.

2 Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the trumpet call obey; forth to the mighty conflict in this his glorious day: ye that are men now serve him against unnumbered foes; let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

3 Stand up, stand up for Jesus, stand in his strength alone; the arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own: put on the gospel armor, each piece put on with pray'r; where duty calls, or danger, be never wanting there.

4 Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the strife will not be long; this day the noise of battle, the next the victor's song: to him that overcometh a crown of life shall be; he with the King of glory shall reign eternally.

Prayer of the Church and the Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Hymn # 277 Christ the Lord Is Risen Today

1 "Christ the Lord is ris'n today," Alleluia! sons of men and angels say; Alleluia! raise your joys and triumphs high; Alleluia! Sing ye heav'ns, and earth, reply. Alleluia!

2 Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Alleluia! Christ has burst the gates of hell: Alleluia! death in vain forbids his rise; Alleluia! Christ has opened paradise. Alleluia!

3 Lives again our glorious King; Alleluia! where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia! Once he died, our souls to save; Alleluia! where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

4 Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia! foll'wing our exalted Head; Alleluia! made like him, like him we rise: Alleluia! ours the cross, the grave, the skies. Alleluia!

5 Hail, the Lord of earth and heav'n! Alleluia! Praise to thee by both be giv'n; Alleluia! thee we greet triumphant now; Alleluia! hail, the Resurrection, thou! Alleluia!

Benediction
