Updated: Jan 15

Welcome

Call to Worship

Behold, how good and how pleasant it isFor brethren to dwell together in unity!

It is like the precious oil upon the head,Running down on the beard,The beard of Aaron,Running down on the edge of his garments.

It is like the dew of Hermon,Descending upon the mountains of Zion;For there the Lord commanded the blessing—Life forevermore.

 Psalm 133

Hymn # 55 To God Be the Glory

1 To God be the glory, great things he has done!So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,who yielded his life an atonement for sin,and opened the life-gate that we may go in.Refrain:Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,let the earth hear his voice!Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,let the people rejoice!O come to the Father thro' Jesus the Son,and give him the glory, great things he has done!2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!To ev'ry believer the promise of God;the vilest offender who truly believes,that moment from Jesus forgiveness receives. (Refrain) 3 Great things he has taught us, great things he has done,and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;but purer and higher and greater will beour wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. (Refrain)

Call To Confession

Our Lord Jesus says, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ And also, ‘Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.’

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us... If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” Let us, therefore, confess ours sins to the Lord, saying together:

1 John 1:8 (NKJV)

Confession of Sins

Almighty and Gracious Father, we confess to you that we have sinned by not loving you with our whole heart and by not loving our neighbor as ourselves. Our faith is weak, and we easily give in to doubt. Forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness in thought, word and deed. For we ask this in the name of your Son, who is our sure Redeemer and our Savior. Amen.

Word of Assurance

Brothers and Sisters in Jesus, our Gracious Heavenly Father has forgiven us our sins according to His word that "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins."

Colossians 1:13–14

Doxology # 731

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

praise him, all creatures here below;

praise him above, ye heav'nly host;

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Scripture Lesson: Philippians 2:1-8

Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Sermon

Hymn # 644 May the Mind of Christ My Savior

1 May the mind of Christ my Savior live in me from day to day, by his love and pow'r controlling all I do and say.

2 May the Word of God dwell richly in my heart from hour to hour, so that all may see I triumph only through his pow'r.

3 May the peace of God my Father rule my life in everything, that I may be calm to comfort sick and sorrowing.

4 May the love of Jesus fill me as the waters fill the sea; him exalting, self abasing,this is victory.

5 May his beauty rest upon meas I seek the lost to win,and may they forget the channel,seeing only him.

Prayer of the Church with the Lord’s Prayer

Let us pray together as Jesus taught us:

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Hymn # 353 I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord

1 I love thy kingdom, Lord,the house of thine abode,the church our blest Redeemer savedwith his own precious blood.

2 I love thy church, O God:her walls before thee stand,dear as the apple of thine eye,and graven on thy hand.

3 For her my tears shall fall,for her my prayers ascend;to her my cares and toils be giv'n,till toils and cares shall end.

4 Beyond my highest joyI prize her heav'nly ways,her sweet communion, solemn vows,her hymns of love and praise.

5 Jesus, thou Friend divine,Our Savior and our King,thy hand from ev'ry snare and foeshall great deliv'rance bring.

6 Sure as thy truth shall last,to Zion shall be giv'nthe brightest glories earth can yield,and brighter bliss of heav'n.

Benediction
