Call To Confession

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For,

“Whoever would love life and see good days

must keep their tongue from evil

and their lips from deceitful speech.

They must turn from evil and do good;

they must seek peace and pursue it.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous

and his ears are attentive to their prayer,

but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

1 Peter 3:8–12 citing Psalm 34:12-16 (NIV):

Confession of Sins

Let us pray to the Lord confessing our sin, saying together:

Do not withhold your mercy from me, Lord;

may your love and faithfulness always protect me.

For troubles without number surround me;

my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.

They are more than the hairs of my head,

and my heart fails within me.

Be pleased to save me, Lord;

come quickly, Lord, to help me.

Psalm 40:11–13 (NIV)

Word of Comfort

As we are weary and burdened by our sin and our troubles, our Lord Jesus says to us:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)

Song of Renewal

Jesus! I do now receive him,more than all in him I find;he hath granted me forgiveness,I am his, and he is mine.

Hallelujah! what a Savior!Hallelujah, what a Friend!Saving, helping, keeping, loving,he is with me to the end.

Trinity Hymnal # 498, stanza 5

Scripture Lessons

Isaiah 30:18-22

Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you;And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.For the Lord is a God of justice;Blessed are all those who wait for Him.

19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem;You shall weep no more.He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry;When He hears it, He will answer you.20 And though the Lord gives youThe bread of adversity and the water of affliction,Yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore,But your eyes shall see your teachers.21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,“This is the way, walk in it,”Whenever you turn to the right handOr whenever you turn to the left.22 You will also defile the covering of your images of silver,And the ornament of your molded images of gold. You will throw them away as an unclean thing;You will say to them, “Get away!”

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Sermon – Fix Your Eyes

Hymn # 642 Be Thou My Vision

1 Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;naught be all else to me, save that thou art -thou my best thought, by day or by night,waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

2 Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word;I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;thou my great Father, I thy true son;thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

3 Be thou my battle shield, sword for my fight;be thou my dignity, thou my delight,thou my soul's shelter, thou my high tow'r;raise thou me heav'n-ward, O Pow'r of my pow'r.

4 Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,thou mine inheritance, now and always:thou and thou only, first in my heart,High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art.

5 High King of heaven, my victory won,may I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'n's Sun!Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Prayer of the Church and the Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Hymn (insert) In Christ Alone

1 In Christ alone my hope is found,He is my light, my strength, my songThis Cornerstone, this solid Ground,Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.What heights of love, what depths of peaceWhen fears are stilled, when strivings cease!My Comforter, my All in All,Here in the love of Christ I stand.

2 In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,Fullness of God in helpless babe!This gift of love and righteousness,Scorned by the ones He came to save:Till on that cross as Jesus died,The wrath of God was satisfied -For every sin on Him was laid;Here in the death of Christ I live.

3 There in the ground His body lay,Light of the world by darkness slain:Then bursting forth in glorious dayUp from the grave He rose again!And as He stands in victorySin's curse has lost its grip on me,

For I am His and He is mine-Bought with the precious blood of Christ

4 No guilt in life, no fear in death,This is the power of Christ in me;From life's first cry to final breath,Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man,Can ever pluck me from His hand;Till He returns or calls me home,Here in the power of Christ I'll stand!

Benediction
