HISTORY

The roots of Presbyterianism in the Ligonier Valley go back over 200 years.  The Fairmont and Donegal churches constitute much of the history of our Presbyterian heritage.  The Associate Presbyterian Church in the USA all are part of the history of this church, now affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).  The Ligonier congregation was known as a "group of sturdy Calvinists."  The present church building was begun in 1876 under the leadership of Reverend W.H. Vincent (for which Vincent Street is named), at a cost of $4,200.  It was completed in 1877 and formally opened for worship in August of that year.

VALUES

At Pioneer Presbyterian Church P.C.A., we are steadfast in our belief in the Trinity as one God, three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that the head of the church is Jesus Christ and through Him, by faith, by His grace alone, does God save us. We believe in the inerrancy of the Scriptures in the original languages. We are devoted to the teachings of the Protestant Reformation, encapsulated in the Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed, and the Westminster Confession of Faith.

VISION

Our vision at Pioneer Presbyterian Church P.C.A. is to carry out the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20), making disciples in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We are dedicated to spreading the good news and teaching everything that Jesus has commanded us.

DENOMINATION

Our church is evangelical, which means that we believe the Bible is the Word of God and that the good news is to be offered to everyone! Our church is presbyterian, which means that we are connected to other congregations and that our church is not led by a pastor but by a team of elders, which includes both ministers and laymen.  We belong to the Presbyterian Church of America and the Pittsburgh Presbytery.

COMMUNION & WORSHIP

The sacrament of communion is held on the first Sunday of every month and is open for any member in good standing of a church that preaches Christ alone for salvation. We practice a traditional worship style singing hymns together as a congregation.
